There is no better way of learning to play the pipes or improve your playing than by attending the Wynnum RSL Pipe Band College of Piping.

The Wynnum RSL Pipe Band aims to foster the art of piping within the bayside community and offers lessons from beginner level right through to the advanced player.

This instruction is open to adults and children aged over 11.

All of our instructors are of the highest calibre, having competed regularly in Grade 1 and 2 Pipe Bands and as accomplished solo competitors both within Australia and overseas.

The Wynnum RSL Pipe Band College of Piping uses a structured learning program, which has been developed by the College of Piping, Scotland. This program provides a standard procedure that ensures all learners progress through the package and attain competencies within predetermined timeframes.

All Instructors of Minors are Blue Card holders and Parents or Guardians are required to be present whilst lessons are conducted.

Lesson Plans

  • Learner Start-up – Stage one
    •  $150 for 10 week block. This includes 10 weeks tuition, plus a Practice Chanter and Tutor Book (containing CD/DVD).
  • Learner Stage Two
    •  $100 for 10 week block. This is for people who have completed stage one, or can demonstrate the ability to play a few tunes on the Practice Chanter.
  • Learner Stage Three
    • $100 for 10 week block. This is for people who have completed stages one and two and are moving towards playing on the bagpipes.
  • Individual Advanced
    • $25 per 45 minute lesson. This individual tuition is available to players of all levels and lessons require advance bookings.

Progress through these stages is dependant on the student attaining the expected competencies of each section in the allocated timeframe.

At completion of stage three, all learners will be provided with a (Standard Tune List) that will enable them to start playing with the learner band. At this stage they will also need to purchase their own set of bagpipes, which the band can help source.

Holidays:

We understand if someone is sick, on holidays or just can’t make a lesson and every attempt will be made to arrange a catch-up lesson.

Lesson Times:

Lesson times are Tuesday night at Wynnum RSL Club between 6pm to 8pm. You can find our contact details here.
